Susan Good Hillman

Of Brighton Heights, formerly of Point Breeze, age 72, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. She was born on September 8, 1951 to Marwood and Suzanne (Coutant) Good and raised in Syracuse, NY. She graduated from Jamesville-DeWitt High School, and then from Nathaniel Hawthorne College in New Hampshire. After moving to Pittsburgh, Susan had a career in art and book sales, including at Barnes and Noble and Society for Contemporary Crafts. Susan loved people--she loved to both learn from and help them, which explained her fierce involvement in her community, her love for travel, and her absolute knack at being a mother. She was always politically active, and in recent years, she became a Democratic committee woman in District 27/4. She also volunteered frequently throughout her life, including at Tree Pittsburgh and North Side Common Ministries. Susan loved traveling and the beach. She cherished her annual beach trip with her cousins, where she would spend hours at a time in the ocean, and within the last year, she took a solo trip to Morocco and Spain. Most importantly, she was a wonderful mother. Being a mother was her proudest accomplishment—and her children are honored to have had her constant support and guidance throughout their lives and to have taken care of her in her final days. She was a devoted mother to her three children, John Hillman (Ashley Close) of East Liberty, Hannah Hillman (Grant Spyke) of Thornburg, and Sarah Hillman (Patrick Sherman) of the North Side. Sister of Elizabeth “Liz” Woods of Colorado and the late Michael Good. Aunt of Darrell Woods. Also survived by many loving cousins. Private burial in Penn Forest Natural Burial Park, Verona. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later time.
