B. Timothy "Tim" Stanny

July 4, 1945 — November 14, 2024

Hampton Twp.

Brian Timothy "Tim" Stanny, of Allison Park, age 79, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024. Son of the late Norbert F. and Gwendelyn Stanny. He had been battling cancer for close to ten years. Tim was loved and adored by family and friends, especially his wife Carrie and son Patrick.

A graduate of Shady Side Academy, Hamilton College, Duquesne Law School, and the American Graduate School of International Management (AGSIM). Tim was a life-long learner who enjoyed OSHER classes and a love of languages. As one friend said, "His Russian was good enough for him to get into trouble, but not good enough to get him out."

Tim was passionate about the environment and spent nine years as a board member of the Allegheny Land Trust. One of his favorite actions was stewarding the purchase of Sycamore Island with ALT President and friend Roy Kraynyk. He also served on the Environmental Council for Hampton Township.

Tim began his career as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of PA. He then moved to Westinghouse Electric (Pittsburgh, PA) and worked in international contracts. From there to Senior Corporate Attorney at McGraw-Edison, (Canonsburg, PA) in the late 1980s. From there, Tim worked for AEG Westinghouse, ABB Daimler-Benz, Adtranz, and Bombardier-all while never leaving the same building in West Mifflin, PA. He retired in early 2000s.

But Tim was more than his CV. He was funny, loved his friends and he liked his wine plentiful, his coffee extra hot and his pastries French. His first love was racquet sports, and he could always be found on the tennis and paddle courts at Fox Chapel Racquet Club. Nothing was better than practicing with his teammates, talking smack on the court, traveling to paddle games and eating all the things his wife would never let him. A passionate skier, Tim was able to take a last trip with his family to his beloved Colorado mountains and enjoy one last run.

Tim will be missed by his brother Cal, and nieces Elizabeth, Brenda (Jon), and Gwen (Cliff). And three great nephews, Trent, Reed, and Sam. Also by friends Katy Gibson and Sarah Guest who were key members in his recovery from brain surgery. The family would like to thank AHN Hospice for the wonderful care.

Private burial in Penn Forest Natural Burial Park, Verona. Friends will be welcomed to share stories and remembrances at the Fox Chapel Racquet Club, 355 Hunt Road, Pittsburgh PA 15238, on Thursday, December 12, from 10:30am to 12:30pm.
